Julie Bellemare appointed Curator of Early Modern Glass
Julie Bellemare recently served as the Jane and Morgan Whitney Postdoctoral Fellow, Asian Art, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and specializes in Chinese enamels and glass. Prior to her fellowship at the Met, Julie was Special Projects Assistant at the National Museum of Asian Art, Smithsonian Institution, and earlier she was a curatorial and research intern at the Brooklyn Museum.
Julie holds a PhD in Decorative Arts, Design history, Material Culture from Bard Graduate Center; a Master’s in History of Art and Visual Culture from University of Oxford, UK; and a BA in Art History and East Asian Studies from McGill University in Montreal.
"As a specialist of Chinese glass and enamels, I am delighted to be part of an institution that celebrates this medium and is committed to exploring its global connections,” said Bellemare. “I am excited to join the Curatorial team as we embark on the project of re-envisioning the 35 Centuries of Glass Galleries, and I look forward to bringing even more inclusive and diverse perspectives on the Museum’s exceptional collections of early modern glass."
Bellemare will join the Museum on October 17, 2022.
