PARK CITY MUSEUM
Morgan Pierce appointed Executive Director
Morgan brings a broad background in historical museums, spanning curatorship, education, and administration. He served most recently as the Executive Director of the Museum of Culpeper History in Culpeper, VA, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the story of Culpeper from the Triassic Period 215 million years ago to the present day. Morgan managed the team of staff and volunteers through pandemic-related restrictions and was able to capture emergency grants to help continue operations. He oversaw financial operations and helped to research, design and install meaningful exhibits as well as develop related programming.
Prior to his work in Culpeper, Morgan was Chief Curator at the Hermann-Grima + Gallier Historic Houses in New Orleans. There he supervised curatorial and education staff. Among his accomplishments was developing a tour interpreting the lives of enslaved workers and leading a project to preserve the historic building exteriors and install modern electrical wiring and HVAC systems. Morgan also served as Registrar, then Curator of Collections at the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley in Winchester, VA. Morgan holds a BA in History from James Madison University and an MA in Arts Management from George Mason University.
“One of the things that unanimously drew us to Morgan is his extensive record and commitment to the history field,” said Paige Anderson, Chair of the Board of Trustees. “He knows how to create innovative programming and how to build audiences and community engagement – the pieces that make for lasting success and will deepen the impact of the Museum.”
“Morgan is a student of history,” said Randy Scott, Board Vice-Chair. “He has accomplished much in his previous roles and has experience and passion for bringing the Museum into and engaging with the community. He has visited Park City and has a real appreciation for the history that can be walked, skied, biked, and hiked through on a daily basis.”
Morgan said, “I am honored to be selected as the Executive Director of the Park City Museum. The Museum has grown considerably throughout its history to become the community treasure it is today. I look forward to working with the talented staff, volunteers, and Board of Trustees to advance the Museum’s mission and continue its remarkable growth as we look ahead to many exciting opportunities in the future.” Morgan is moving to Utah with his wife and two children and looks forward to the many outdoor activities that Park City has to offer.
